East
End Kid: Earth Day
By
Emily Hart Post
With a little help from Katlean de Monchy and David Post
Dad
and I went to Central Park to celebrate the ribbon cutting ceremony
to open the Children's Glade, a new area of the park. There were
speeches and cameras, but I did something I had never done before
and that I really enjoyed - mulching. After I took some pictures,
I went to the mulching area and soon other kids came over too. We
mulched and mulched and helped protect the trees and other green
areas. It was a wonderful way to enjoy the most beautiful Earth
Day I can remember and it was something that is good for the planet.
After that, we went deeper into the park where tens of thousands
of kids, parents and dogs had gathered to hear music, be entertained
by performers, have lunch and learn about the environment from members
of the Central Park Conservancy. There were also activities like
storytelling, but my favorites were mulching and petting the dogs.
Happy Earth Day.
