James Riley, 60, of East Hampton, was killed after driving his Oldsmobile on the wrong side of the road on Sunrise Highway in Westhampton around 6:50 p.m. on New Year’s Eve . An eyewitness near the crash reported that he was traveling 70 miles per hour. He crashed into a car carrying an East Hampton family of three, which included a nine-year-old girl. There is still no word yet on whether or not Mr. Riley was under the influence of alcohol while driving
The accident completely destroyed both vehicles. The family in the opposing car sustained serious injuries, but they are not life threatening. Emergency personal were able to extract two members of the family and brought them by Medevac helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital. The third family member was brought to hospital by ambulance. The names of the injured are Carlos Bunay, 39, Blanca Tenesaci, 38, and Joselyn Tenesaci, 9.
