For the 17th year, Espo’s Surf & Sport is holding their annual Montauk Surf Classic at Ditch Plains beach in Montauk this weekend. Sponsored by ESA (Eastern Surfing Association), Espo’s Surf & Sport and the Atlantic Terrace Beach Motel, the surf competition features the area’s best surfers and is open to all ages and genders on Saturday and Sunday October 5–6.

Surfers will compete for $5,000 in cash prizes (donated by the Atlantic Terrace) and the  Awards Dinner will take place at the Atlantic Terrace at 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Sponsors are encouraging all children, from beginner to advanced, to attend the Surf Classic in order to learn about surfing and water safety.

Applications for the event must be submitted by this Thursday, October 3 and potential competitors can pick them up at Espo’s Surf & Sport (2101 Montauk Highway, 631-267-7873) in Amagansett or online at ny.surfesa.org. On Saturday, day-of-event beach entry to the Montauk Surf Classic will be based on availability.

This year, the Montauk Surf Classic will sponsor a Food Drive and raise money for the local Food Pantry.
