Shinnecock Gaming Authority Trailer Fire Deemed Suspicious
A fire that destroyed the Shinnecock Gaming Authority office early Wednesday has been deemed suspicious and is inder investigation, police and fire marshals confirmed Thursday.
New York Police Investigator Eric Baez said that in addition to state police, fire marshals from Southampton Town, Southampton Village and Suffolk County are investigating.
Southampton Town Chief Fire Marshal Cheryl Kraft said that the blaze is a suspicious fire.
It was first reported at 12:42 a.m. Wednesday.
Tiana, a canine from the Suffolk fire marshals’ office that is ATF certified for arson investigations, was on scene Wednesday and samples were collected, Baez said. The samples have been sent to the Suffolk County Crime Lab, he added. “They can determine whether or not an accelerant was used.”
The Shinnecock Gaming Authority works on developing a Shinnecock casino and other gambling-related ventures.
