Flying Point on the Harbor Releases Video of Shoplifter

Flying Point on the Harbor posted a surveillance video to its Facebook page Wednesday in hopes that the public can help identify a shoplifter.

Kelly Flaherty, the manager of Flying Point’s Sag Harbor Village women’s boutique, said a woman took a beanie from inside the store, then took a jacket that was displayed in front of store. Both thefts were caught by survellience video, though only a clip of the latter was shared on Facebook.

In the 13-second clip, the woman picks up a hanger that has a sweater and a jacket on it. She removes the jacket, puts the sweater back, looks around, and walks off with the jacket.

Flying Point successfully used Facebook to identify a shoplifter over the summer. Flaherty said a video of a girl shoplifting was shared over 14,000 times. After seeing the video, the girl’s mother forced the girl to turn herself in, according to Flaherty.

In this instance, many people have said they recognize the woman in the video, but they did not know her name, Flaherty said.

The items are valued at $200 and a police report was filed.

Flaherty encourages anyone with information that could help identify the woman to contact Sag Harbor Village police at 631-725-0247 or call the shop at 631-899-4511.
