A 36-year-old man was shot in front of his house in Flanders Wednesday afternoon, and now two suspects in the shooting, Kwame Opoku and Emmanuel Coleman, are in custody.

Southampton Town police said that at 3:08 p.m. October 15 they received several reports of gunshots in the McKinley Street area. Two men in a white Chrysler sedan fled before police arrived to find the victim at 5 McKinley Street, according to authorities.

Southampton Town police, New York State police and K-9 units, Westhampton Beach Village police and Suffolk County police helicopters responded. Meanwhile, town police officers stopped a white Chrysler sedan on Flanders Road/State Route 24 near the Spinney Road intersection.

Police said it was determined that Opoku, 32, of Mastic Beach, had an argument with the victim earlier that day that preceded the shooting.

Opoku is charged with first-degree assault, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree criminal use of a firearm and first-degree reckless endangerment, all felonies. Coleman, 34, of Riverhead, is charged with first-degree assault and violation of parole. They were scheduled to be arraigned Thursday morning at Southampton Town Justice Court in Hampton Bays.
