Riverhead Police: Parolee Arrested After Car Chase
When officers in a marked police car tried to pull over a Honda Accord on East Main Street in Riverhead early Saturday, the driver fled, according to Riverhead police.
Police said that at 2 a.m. the driver fled east to Hubbard Avenue and was speeding until he lost control of the vehicle at Edgar Avenue and Meetinghouse Creek Road. The car struck railroad tracks and a parked railroad vehicle, then the driver tried to flee on foot before he was apprehended, according to an arrest report.
Riverhead Town Volunteer Ambulance Corps took the driver, Tremaine B. Kelly, 30, of Shirley, to Peconic Bay Medical Center to be treated for injuries sustained in the car crash. Police said Kelly was in violation of his New York State Parole. He is charged with third-degree unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor, and a number of vehicle and traffic violations.
Due to being hospitalized, Kelly was issued a ticket to appear in court at a later date.
