Beth Stern Hosts Yappy Hour in Southampton August 27
Beth Stern, model, television personality, author, actress and wife of shock jock Howard Stern, will be judging Yappy Hour at the Southampton Historical Museum on Thursday, August 27, from 4 to 6 p.m.
Stern is a North Shore Animal League America national spokesperson and volunteer. She has long been an advocate for animals, especially focusing on the plight of shelter animals.
“Caring for animals was a basic part of my upbringing, something I shared with my entire family. In fact, my favorite picture of my great-grandmother shows her surrounded by dogs. We always adopted our pets from local shelters, and we also rescued hurt or sick wildlife in our neighborhood. So I’m convinced that loving animals is in my blood,” said Stern in an interview with Biography.
The passing of her beloved dog Bianca in 2012 spurred Stern’s desire to foster animals, especially kittens who are in danger of being euthanized due to overcrowded shelters.
Stern is also the author of several books including Oh My Dog: How to Choose, Train, Groom, Nurture, Feed, and Care for Your New Best Friend and Yoda: The Story of a Cat and His Kittens.
Along with Stern, the event will feature “Barkaritas,” “Yappetizers,” raffles, music and a beach-themed dog costume contest. There is also a $25 off the price of adoption and the museum will be offering free memberships the day of the event.
It’s $25 for adults and $10 for dogs in advance with no entrance fee for children. The price at the door is $35. All proceeds benefit the Southampton Historical Museum and the North Shore Animal League of America. To purchase tickets visit southamptonhistoricalmuseum.org or call the Museum at 631-283-2494.
