Alec Baldwin Leads Call to 'Kill the Hills' and Repeal PDD Law
Alec Baldwin, the Amagansett actor and environmentalist, stars in a new video by the Long Island Pine Barrens Society opposed to the proposed Hills at Southampton development in East Quogue.
“The biggest and baddest developmnent on Long Island is the proposed Hills at Southampton mega golf resort on some 500 acres of land that is the largest privately owned Pine Barrens parcel remaining on Long Island,” Baldwin says. “The project would include 118 residential units, a 98-acre private golf course, and a 155,000-thousand-square-foot clubhouse built on 4 acres with a 4-acre pond area. The site is also in a state-designated special groundwater protection area as well as a Suffolk County–designated critical environmental area.”
The video also takes aim at planned development districts, or PDDs, which are designed to increase flexibility in land use and development. Baldwin characterized PDDs as “nothing more than density giveaways to wealthy developers.”
