Debra Messing Joins 'Dirty Dancing' Remake

East Hampton’s Debra Messing has been cast as Baby’s mother—a prototypical ’60s housewife—in a television remake of the 1987 film Dirty Dancing, according to Deadline.
While the mother was a small part in the original film, Messing tweeted Friday, “It’s been revamped and the role is meaty !”
The original starred Jennifer Grey as Baby, a 17-year-old on vacation with her parents in the Catskills in the early 1960s. She falls for the resort’s dance instructor, Johnny Castle, played by Patrick Swayze. This time, Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine, Scream Queens) is Baby. The new Johnny is still being determined.
The scheduled airdate for the three-hour ABC broadcast has yet to be announced.
Messing currently stars as a police detective in NBC’s The Mysteries of Laura, which is in its second season.
