The Shinnecock Indian Nation approved a measure authorizing the construction of a new hotel in the Hamptons.

The tribe plans to move forward with construction of a 200-room hotel-resort at the tribe’s Westwoods property in Hampton Bays. The project is being headed by Woodglen Investments.

The development comes as the Nation is also moving forward with a planned casino, which tribal leaders say would help foster economic development for its members, although neighbors remain concerned about traffic.

If it is completed, the casino would be the first on the East End and only the second on Long Island, which is home to Jake’s 58 in Islandia.
