Members’ Reception for Platform: Barthélémy Toguo: The Beauty of Our Voice

August 4, 2018, 5:30 pm7:30 pm.

Members are invited to a special program and reception to celebrate the opening of the exhibition Platform: Barthélémy Toguo: The Beauty of Our Voice.
Join us in the Lichtenstein Theater at 5:45 pm for a special program with Barthélémy Toguo and Corinne Erni, Senior Curator of ArtsReach and Special Projects, followed by a Bandjoun Coffee performance by the artist in the galleries and a reception in the Norman and Liliane Peck/The Peter Jay Sharp Foundation lobby.

The Bandjoun Coffee performance is an interactive action initiated at Bandjoun Station. The artist invites the public to taste the coffee that was produced at Bandjoun Station, a center for culture and agriculture founded by the artist where he works with the local community to grow, harvest, roast, and package the coffee. The performance is a form of criticism of the unbalanced trade exchanges between the global north and south, where normally the north determines the prices. In this case, Toguo creates the product and determines its price. The tasting is free!
