Author Shelby Raebeck will discuss novel, Sparrow Beach. There will be a Q & A period after the talk.
Living on Long Island’s fast developing East End, local builder Michael Dorian is forced to reckon: with a building industry being overrun by Manhattan developers; with a failing marriage and teenage daughter riddled with anxiety; with the nature of a hauntingly beautiful place that offers opportunity but no longer feels like home.
Sparrow Beach is about the dark cloud of excess that threatens to consume Long Island’s East End, and about the patchwork of characters that live beneath it, those who adapt, finding new paths amidst the changing landscape, and those who refuse to.
Shelby Raebeck grew up in Amagansett and now lives in neighboring Springs. In between accepting fellowships for a Masters and Doctorate, Shelby taught English and Creative Writing at both the high school and university levels. Shelby has published fiction in numerous magazines and anthologies in the U.S. and abroad. Shelby is the author of two previous books: Louse Point: Stories From the East End.
