Join Josh Belury for a two-part introduction to the basic elements and tools of celestial navigation and discover how we can use these to orient ourselves on the planet. In the first session, Josh will talk about longitude and latitude; introduce us to the astrolabe and planisphere; and demonstrate how to use a sextant. In the second class, he will teach us how to find and use key celestial bodies in navigation; discuss the concept of time from the Sumerian period through the present; and help us understand how time relates to the rotation of the earth. Josh will also share stunning images of our galaxy taken from the Hubble Space Telescope. Fee: $10. Advance registration and payment required. Register at www.myrml.org or call (631) 283-0774 x 523.
