Chase Edwards Contemporary presents “Above Palette Earth”
Photographer Fran Gormley’s newest solo exhibition, Above Palette Earth, will open at Chase Edwards Gallery in Bridgehampton on June 30th. A collection of aerial photography, Fran’s work captures the hidden, otherworldly beauty of the Earth’s landscapes and was shot in Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Kazakhstan, and Iceland over a period of nine years.
In conjunction with the exhibition, Palette Earth, a photography book with over 100 images from Fran’s portfolio, will be published in hardcover (Greenwich Literary Group, on-sale June 30th, 2018). Describing her work, Gormley cites a passion for “blurring the lines between photography and painting, looking for graphic elements through color, pattern, texture, and light. I really want a photograph that doesn’t look like a photograph—that is ultimately my goal, not concreteness—I want to evoke a feeling that is unique to each person.”
About the author:
Fran Gormley is a New York City based photographer. In 2006, Gormley did her first aerial photography shoot in the Camargue and since then has been fascinated with the unusual perspective an aerial vantage point provides. Her focus is on capturing the dreamlike point at which reality becomes abstraction. Gormley’s one-of-a-kind, large-scale photographs immortalize landscapes from her unique perspective, shooting from a helicopter, thousands of feet above the earth.
