“Cracked Actor Plays the Music of Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers”.

Restrictions: 21 & over

Cracked Actor pays tribute to the late Tom Petty, and his de-facto band The Heartbreakers, with a two-hour showcase which spans the almost 40-year career of this master of concise, melodic songwriting, and his effortlessly accomplished ensemble – from the band’s self-titled 1976 debut Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, right up until 2014’s Hypnotic Eye. Tom Petty’s lean and direct songwriting, fashioned from a blend of rock, pop, blues, country and psychedelia, found the perfect vehicle in the Heartbreakers, an unflashy but tight and versatile backing band capable of spanning numerous musical styles with ease. Their work stands in a lineage of American groups that stretches back through the Byrds, the Band and Creedence Clearwater Revival, while also incorporating a hefty streak of British pop from the Beatles and the Rolling Stones to the Searchers. They were also one of the few of the traditionalist rock & rollers who embraced music videos, filming some of the most inventive and popular videos in MTV history. Petty’s willingness to experiment with the boundaries of classic rock & roll helped sustain his popularity well into the 21st century. The band was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2002. First penning tales of outcasts and long-suffering lovers, Petty broadened his thematic range to encompass musings on his Southern heritage and to propagate a very American kind of individualism. His knack for pop architecture earned him much respect from fellow heavy-hitters — not everyone gets to form an informal side project (The Traveling Wilburys) with Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Roy Orbison, and Jeff Lynne. Petty also collaborated with numerous artists over the years, including Johnny Cash, Stevie Nicks, Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics, and the Grateful Dead. About The Band: Cracked Actor, formed one day after David Bowie’s untimely death, initially paid tribute to the Starman with a series of shows that celebrated his myriad musical Ch-ch-ch-changes. The band has since expanded their tribute repertoire to include Lou Reed and The Velvet Underground, Iggy Pop and The Stooges, Marc Bolan and T-Rex, to name just a few, and now Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers.
