David Slater: Recent Work
Please join us for a solo exhibition of the recent work of DAVID SLATER. The show will be on view November 2nd through the 17th, with an OPENING RECEPTION, Saturday, November 2nd, 5 to 7 PM.
David Slater is known for his mixed media canvases, suffused with vivid imagery and bright colors. Each painting is a virtual kaleidoscope of symbols, dreams, memories, and religious beliefs. And each tells a story.
The origins of Slater’s current work evolved in the 1960s when he first transitioned into creating narrative paintings. Prior to the 60s, he had painted in an abstract expressionist style, but after being inspired by DeKooning’s Woman series, he soon discovered he could switch to working in a figurative style using an abstract form. The style that Slater developed in the 60s and 70s provides a direct link to his current work.
David Slater was born and raised in Massapequa, NY. As a young man he taught art in the United States and England, where he notes an influence from British pop art. He earned a Master’s degree from Rhode Island School of Design, where he also taught for several years. He has spent much of his life traveling, seeking knowledge and adventure. The long reaching influences of those experiences continue to find their way into his work.
