Fresh Look 2018: A Celebration of Art & Artists
Join us at the Museum for a special evening on Saturday, November 10 from 6 to 8 p.m., where you can mingle with artists in the galleries, enjoy signature cocktails and delicious hors d’oeuvres to the backdrop of music, and take a closer look at an array of works from the permanent collection.
At 5 p.m., ticket purchasers at the Supporter ($500+) level and above are invited for a champagne toast with special guest David Salle, who will say a few words about his monumental paintings inspired by the Sistine Chapel and commissioned by Museo Carlo Bilotti, Rome. These works, recently gifted to the Parrish, have never been seen in the United States.
Providing a fresh look at works that illuminate the ongoing legacy of the East End, this year’s new installation, Every Picture Tells a Story, invites us to reconsider how art and artists respond to the world. In addition to Salle’s paintings, the Museum will unveil several newly-acquired Photorealist paintings; a mini-survey of paintings and drawings by Louisa Chase; and a series of intimate and revelatory artists’ portraits by the renowned photographer Fred W. McDarrah, accompanied by examples of those artists’ works. Of note is a gallery filled with paintings and archival photographs exploring the special connections between William Merritt Chase and his Shinnecock neighbors. Fairfield Porter Raw: the Creative Process of an American Master features paintings and works on paper.
