In celebration of International Women’s Day Brookhaven Women in Science (BWIS) and Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) invite you and your family and friends to attend Girl Power in STEM: Think Equal, Build Smart, Innovate for Change!
The goal of our symposium is to promote the participation and celebrate the accomplishments of women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) fields. Lecturers and panelists from academia, government and private sectors will discuss with the participants the impact of women in STEM careers and what each of us can do to promote and sustain women’s participation in STEM fields. Sessions will include professional development talks and discussions for up-and-coming and mid-career professionals in STEM fields, as well as panels and presentations of interest to anyone from the middle school level and up. There will also be parallel networking sessions during which attendees can participate in either a ‘Speed Networking’ session where audience members will have the opportunity to have many 3-minute one-on-one conversations with speakers and panelists, Topic Table sessions where attendees can meet 1-2 professionals in small groups, science demonstrations where attendees can view several STEM demonstrations led by experts in the field, and a poster session where attendees can learn about the STEM research being performed.
