Linda Asher: The Art of Translating Fiction

Linda Asher is a longtime fiction editor at The New Yorker magazine and a Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters of the French Republic. She has translated the works of Victor Hugo, Balzac, Simenon, and Kundera.
Ms. Asher’s translation of the new novel Babylon by French playwright Yasmina Reza, best known to American audiences for her Tony-winning play God of Carnage, was awarded the Prix Renaudot and shortlisted for the Prix Goncourt.
Ms. Asher will speak about the challenges and rewards of translation from French and Czech into English, as well as her career at The New Yorker.
