LWV Hosts Democratic Congressional Primary Debate
To enable voters to hear the candidates and question them about important issues in the Tuesday, June 26 Democratic Congressional Primary Election, the League of Women Voters of the Hamptons is sponsoring a debate on Thursday, May 24, 7-8:30 p.m. in the Hampton Bays High School Auditorium, 88 East Argonne Rd.
The five Democratic Congressional candidates on the ballot, who will be debating, are Kate Browning of Shirley, Elaine DiMasi of Ronkonkoma, Perry Gershon of East Hampton, David Pechefsky of Port Jefferson and Vivian Viloria-Fisher of East Setauket.
The winner of the June 26 Democratic primary election will then run for Congress against the Republican incumbent Congressman Lee Zeldin of Shirley, in the general election on November 6.
Debate format consists of the candidates making timed opening and closing statements and answering questions submitted by a panel of local media and the League, as well as by the audience. Moderator will be LWV Gov’t Committee Co-Chair Cathy Peacock of Amagansett.
The debate is organized by the League’s Voter Services Committee, chaired by Anne Marshall of Bridgehampton and Carol Mellor of East Quogue.
Southampton Town’s SEA-TV will tape the debate for viewing on Channel 22. The tape will also be made available for screening on East Hampton Town’s LTV.
