Make-Up or Break-Up? Love Duets at the Opera
As Valentine’s Day approaches, on Sunday February 10 at 2:30 p.m. at the Montauk Library, soprano Tanisha Mitchell, Lecturer and Musicologist, will present Make-up or Breakup? Love duets at the Opera: Join us as we explore the drama, passion and pain of love through some of opera’s most famous duets.
Ms Mitchell’s talk will explore La Boheme, Carmen, Faust, Otello, and Romeo and Juliette. Drawing on her work at the Metropolitan Opera Music Library and Freeport Memorial Library, Tanisha Mitchell combines her knowledge and love of opera with visual imagery to create vivid presentations to foster music appreciation. Ms. Mitchell advises opera libraries how to make their archives more accessible to the public. Her curatorial and archival expertise helps institutions discover hidden treasures that shed light on their own performance histories as well as leading to a better understanding of the evolution of opera as an important art form.
