SoFo: Family Beach Exploration at Ponquogue
Family Beach Exploration at Ponquogue
Program Leader: Crystal Oakes, South Fork Natural History Museum Environmental Educator.
Life in the ocean is a mystery to us since humans can only visit underwater for a short time. Thankfully, the actions of wind and waves “gift” us glimpses into this mysterious realm. Join Crystal to explore an ocean beach to learn about the life that has washed up onto the sand—from clams to seaweeds to fish—and the birds that fly or run on the sand and swim in the water. Learn the stories that the different shells can tell about the life, and possibly the death, of the animal that made them as well as the stories hidden in the seaweeds, driftwood, and other flotsam found at the ocean’s edge. A little something for everyone in the whole family!
Advance reservations are required. Programs free for SoFo members. Non-members: $15/ adult, $10/child 3-12 years, 2 and under free. Fees include free admission to the museum on the day of the event.
