YAWP Writing Workshops for Gifted Young Writers
The Young Artists and Writers Project (YAWP), created and sponsored by Stony Brook Southampton’s MFA in Creative Writing and Literature program, will offer a week-long creative writing workshop for teens from April 6 to 10. Middle and high school students will work with professional writers in this five-day retreat. Student writers will explore and hone their poetry, fiction, memoir/personal essay and dialogue skills, discovering the most powerful ways to express their ideas and to have their voices heard. By week’s end, each student will have several pieces of completed work to submit or publish.. Hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The workshop will be offered in Chancellors Hall on the Stony Brook Southampton campus. Student work from the workshop will be eligible for publication in the YAWP Ezine and for presentation in the “Sounding Our YAWP” event at the campus in late April/early May. The course fee is $525. Partial scholarships are available.
