Women’s Passover Seders: A Seder By Women, For Women
The Jewish Center of the Hamptons, located at 44 Woods Lane in East Hampton, invites women on both the East End and New York City to its annual Women’s Passover Seders.
The seder events will take place on Tuesday, April 23 at 6 pm in NYC and Wednesday, April 24, at 6 pm in East Hampton.
Passover is celebrated in the early spring, and commemorates the emancipation of the Israelites from slavery in ancient Egypt. It is observed by ritual Seder meals that recount the Jewish people’s exodus to freedom. Today, our Seders remember and pray for all those who are oppressed or otherwise in need, while inspiring each individual to strive for a greater measure of self-liberation from the limitations we impose upon ourselves. The JCOH Women’s Passover Seder will explore the role of women in the story of Passover. Cantor/Rabbi Debra Stein will lead a joyful musical Seder, including readings, meditations, and prayers for the holiday.
Each year we explore relevant topics that are unique to us as we gather round the table and create a service that brings women’s issues to the forefront around the holiday of Passover.
This year, we are exploring topics such as “Can it ever be Dayenu”? Is it ever enough if we know other don’t have? What is our responsibility to create a world where everyone has enough? We will explore the female faces of the opioid crisis through the four daughters, and tell the story of slavery to freedom through the words of women around the world who have just found their freedom story.
Please RSVP by April 16, as space is limited at both Seders.
