Lou Reed Released from Southampton Hospital
Legendary rocker and Velvet Underground founder Lou Reed was released from Southampton Hospital sometime on Monday, following a health scare that led him to the emergency room at around 7 a.m. Sunday morning, according to The Inquisitr website.
TMZ reported Monday that the 71-year-old East Hampton resident was suffering from dehydration, causing nausea and repeated vomiting, before the ambulance brought him to the hospital. Reed received a life-saving liver transplant in May and had just returned to playing shows 10 days before.
On June 20, he appeared onstage at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, an awards show and festival for members of the global creative communications industries, and seemed to be doing well with the new liver. This recent hiccup appears to only be dehydration, according to reports, but there had been some fear Reed was rejecting his new organ.
Reed’s wife, Laurie Anderson, recently posted on her husband’s Facebook about his transplant, noting, “Lou is in the best physical shape in years – strong and energetic. He has a wonderful new life now and can do anything he wants. We were talking about how a traumatic event – a surgery or a calamity – can change your life. These things make you reevaluate everything in your life. And while they mark you forever, these traumas can be extremely positive. And I think for Lou this is especially true. He gets a chance to see things with enormous perspective. We couldn’t be happier at the way this turned out.”
Let’s hope Reed is back in East Hampton and enjoying some downtime before the big Fourth of July weekend.
