Pamper Dad for Father’s Day on the East End
It’s just over a week until Father’s Day! While most Hamptons dads tend to be happy if left to their own devices and given time for a little R&R, there are a few splurges to make their day extra special.
For starters we’ve got some of the world’s most renowned golf courses here on the East End. Let Dad channel his inner Tiger with Nike’s Vapor Pro Combo Irons Golf Club Set (nike.com, $1,099); even if his skills don’t impress, the top-of-the-line clubs sure will. In tandem with that, The Ashworth Leucadia Tour (ashworthgolf.com, $170) is an updated take on a traditional, classic saddle shoe with killer detailing and craftsmanship. In fact, it’s so well designed you’ll wish you were able to slip on the performance shoe even when you’re off the green.
On a budget? No problem. 361° is the second highest-grossing athletic footwear brand in China. While the name might not ring a bell yet, that will certainly be changing. They’re in the middle of a global expansion and will, by the end of the year, be in more than a 100 stores in North America. Their prices, which start at around $60, make them more affordable than many of their competitors, and they have styles for both running and cross-training (Sneakerology, 2 Main Street, East Hampton).
Alternatively, on the beauty front, V76 By Vaughn (v76.com) has launched limited-edition gift sets, each of which retail for $52 or less and include best selling products Dad will want to use every day like their Hydrating Shampoo, Hydrating Conditioner, Body Wash and Gel Cream. And you can tell dad he’s in good company, as the brand was founded by Vaughn Acord, who has styled American icons including President Clinton, Tom Brady, Bruce Springsteen and Richard Gere.
Celebrate dad with a bottle of sparkling wine! Chandon, the famed California winemaker, has released two limited edition American summer bottles in two different colors of stripes that fit the essence of a Hamptons summer. The Chandon rosé has notes of intense ripe strawberry, juicy watermelon and fresh red cherry fruit aromas and flavors. The Brut Classic expresses Chandon’s signature flavor profile of apple, pear and citrus flavors and aromas for a soft, dry finish. Both can be purchased online at chandon.com. Act fast! The bottles are only available from Memorial Day though Labor Day! Cheers!
Dan’s Papers editor Kelly Laffey recommends helping Dad sweat in style. “Working out without music is hard. This summer, sweat in style with Happy Plugs ear buds that combine style and function,” she says. “Happy Plugs come in a variety of colors and collections, perfect for matching to your Hamptons summer workout outfit. Headphones come with a mic and remote, so you can control your music or take a phone call without missing a beat. Happy Plugs are available online at happyplugs.com.”
Dan’s Papers assistant editor and calendar guy Lee Meyer recommends ManCave grooming products. Available at Target, ManCave’s Shave Gel and Post-Shave Balm will give your pop a great, smooth start to the day, while the Whiskey Scented Conditioning Cream will sculpt his hair so well that nobody will notice the receding hairline. After all, dad bods are all the rage these days, so why not have his head match the rest of the great look? Available at Target (target.com).
Treat Dad to a night out without the kids! This summer, Red Carpet Kids comes to Southampton to host “Pajamas on the Red Carpet.” The program, held select Friday nights beginning June 26, allows parents to drop their kids off for an evening of improv, arts & crafts, a delicious dinner and a child-appropriate movie. Enjoy your night out knowing that your kids are having an amazing evening on the red carpet. Drop-off is at 5:30 p.m., and pickup is at 9 p.m. Visit redcarpetkidsnyc.com for additional info.
And, when all is worked out, Atomi Charging Station (atominy.com; $29.99), is on deck to keep everything charged and ready to go for future endeavors. It has three USB ports compatible with all USB-powered devices and light up dividers to separate all of your gadgets in a compact but sleek way.
On the female front is Borderline Jewelry. Borderline is a collection of accessories depicting borders of the world—think lakes, islands, states, countries, continents and more. The line of necklaces, bracelets, key chains and cufflinks is available in sterling silver, brass, and gold and they’ve got a Beach Borders collection that includes the Hamptons and Shelter Island (borderlinejewelry.com).
Outnet.com, an online designer fashion outlet, will be launching an exclusive summer edit of 17 limited-edition styles on Tuesday, June 23. The designer pieces are all travel essentials – perfect for a stylish getaway to the East End. Best of all, any orders placed on the collection throughout the summer will receive same day delivery to the Hamptons.
Another worthy investment is the beautiful Velour Beach Towel, created by Lexington Clothing Company and Hamponite Interior Designer Anthony Baratta. All proceeds for the towels will go to Group for the East End (Anthony Baratta, 1 Glovers Lane, Westhampton Beach, $79).
The week wouldn’t be complete with a new happening on the fitness front. Flywheel Sports, the popular cycling studio, already operates two locations in the Hamptons—one in East Hampton and another in Sag Harbor—but they’ve just opened a new Southampton pop-up (flywheelsports.com).
For those who are looking for something to sweat in, Sports Authority and Champion Athleticwear have launched a new collection called Champion GEAR, available exclusively at Sports Authority. The new premium line of performance and lifestyle apparel unites four key components: seamlessness, compression, quick-drying Champion vapor technology and reflectivity. The line includes apparel for men and women, and includes tanks, tees, pants, shorts and more. Dan’s Papers fitness columnist Kelly Laffey recently tried out the Marathon Knee Tight. The tights are the perfect length for June workouts, when the weather is too warm for full tights but a little too cool for shorts; and for spin classes, when the chafe resistant fabric means extra comfort. The reflective tights make night running much safer! Available at sportsauthority.com and at Sports Authority, 1160 Old Country Road, Riverhead, 631-208-8750.
While you’re out on the shopping trail this weekend be sure to visit an East End farmers market. Yes, the strawberries and asparagus are in but Dale Haubrich and Bette Lacina of Dale and Bette’s Farm in Sag Harbor want you to know that the last of their delish Romaine lettuce will be on offer at the Sag Harbor Farmers Market on Bay Street in Sag Harbor this Saturday, June 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., along with their green garlic, green scallions and their famous mesclun mix. Only the early birds get the freshest of local chicken eggs—so shake a leg and get shopping! Your local farmers market is a great place to recycle your used shopping bags, egg cartons and cardboard pint and quart boxes…
