Ed Reale, Ed Petrie Join Compass
East End real estate veterans Ed Reale and Ed Petrie have both joined real estate firm Compass’s newly opened Hamptons branch, based in Bridgehampton.
Reale is the senior managing director for the Hamptons region, and Petrie is the first associate broker to join the team.
Founded in 2013 in Manhattan, Compass quickly expanded to Brooklyn, D.C., Miami and Boston. Now Compass brings its propriety internet and mobile technology—including the top downloaded and top-rated real estate app in New York—to the Hamptons.
“In welcoming Ed Petrie and Ed Reale we are getting two of the biggest forces in the industry whose creative vision and best-in-class client service is unrivaled,” said Robert Reffkin, the founder and CEO of Compass. “Backed by their experience and deep institutional knowledge, we are well-positioned to make an immediate impact in the booming Hamptons market.”
Reale oversaw the Southampton, Sag Harbor and Westhampton Brown Harris Stevens of the Hamptons offices, and before that he was the brokerage manager of Sotheby’s International Realty’s Southampton office. He’s worked 25 years as a real estate attorney and holds a juris doctor from New York Law School.
“With the confluence of exceptional agents and superlative data technology, Compass is going to raise the industry standard here in the Hamptons,” Reale said. “I look forward to working with the in-house engineers, brokers, and leadership in building a truly different brokerage experience.”
Petrie, formerly of Sotheby’s International Realty’s East Hampton office, has more than 30 years of experience in the luxury real estate industry. He’s been named by The Wall Street Journal among the top 200 agents nationwide.
Petrie, a lifeong East Hampton resident, got his start at Hamptons real estate firm Allan Schneider Associates and later founded Dunemere Associates. He joined Sotheby’s in 2000 as senior global real estate advisor and associate broker.
Petrie said what attracted him to Compass was its business model: Instead of asking “What can the brokers do for us?” Compass asks, “What can we do for the brokers?”
“They’re very tech savvy, and I thought that it wouldn’t take long for them to have a major presence in the Hamptons,” he said. “I thought it would be a good move to be the first person on board.”
“They’re going to recreate the was business is down out here and elsewhere,” Petrie continued. “It’s more about promoting the brokers than their brand—though they are doing both. And the support staff for the brokers is second to none.”
Joining Petrie at Compass are his wife, Julie, and son, James, both of whom he’s worked alongside for years.
Compass Realty is located at 2405 Main Street, Bridgehampton.
