Erica Katz on Mothers, Daughters and Beauty
I had a nice chat with Erika Katz, author of the newly-released book Bonding over Beauty, A Mother-Daughter Guide to Self-Esteem, Confidence and Trust today about her book and tonight’s (Friday, August 26) book signing event at Southampton’s BookHampton from 5 to 7 p.m. As a beauty expert, author of beauty blog http://bondingoverbeauty.com and mother of a tween girl, Katz uses her expertise to help moms bond with their daughters. Bonding over Beauty emphasizes strengthening the mother-daughter bond over simple and fun activities like painting nails or making organic face scrubs from scratch. The book encourages using these activities to facilitate open communication with your daughters and build trust at a time when young girls need it most. By working on comfortable dialog this will help give the necessary tools to tackle sensitive topics that arise in the tween years. [expand]
“If you can get your daughter to talk to you openly and honestly during the tween years about uncomfortable subjects such as puberty, she is more likely to come to you later when she is concerned about boys, sex, drugs, and alcohol,” says Katz. The focus of Bonding Over Beauty is not beauty itself but working on the special relationship mothers and daughters share. Katz was a former child model and actress, and interned in the beauty department at Seventeen magazine and later graduated from Dartmouth College. She has utilized her eclectic experiences to create a beauty guide that served as the foundation for Bonding over Beauty, a valuable resource for moms offering advice and numerous bonding rituals to ease the difficulties faced by young girls.
This evening’s event and book signing promises to be a fun family experience. As a longtime resident of Southampton, Katz is very excited to bring her new book and concepts to the Hamptons. “We relish the warm community out here in Southampton and BookHampton is our favorite place to meander through the aisles and ask the clerks for their expert advice on books. The shop embodies the close-knit neighborhood feeling our family has grown to love about this special village,” commented Katz. During the book signing, the company Good For Your Girls will offer goodie bags with all natural skin care products, beauty company Therapy will be on hand to weave feathers into girls’ hair and of course Erika Katz will be available to talk about her book and sign copies. Stop by BookHampton at 93 Main Street in Southampton tonight from 5- to 7 p.m., and bring the family to join in the fun.
