Here’s a pretty good idea.

The Long Island Power Authority has launched a plan that will allow its customers to report information to them about a power outage and to also receive texts from the company about power outages.

This is a great tool to use rather than sitting by the radio in the hopes that they will mention something about power going back up, and is also more useful than their website too because not everybody can be near a computer at all times.

Registering your cell for the service is pretty easy. To register, text REG to myLIPA (695472) or visit lipower.org/mylipa.
