Tuesday Fire Guts Southampton Village House
Southampton Fire Department responded Tuesday morning to a house fire on Powell Avenue that gutted the home.
The department was dispatched at 11:31 a.m. Second Assistant Chief Chris Brenner said the first on scene reported heavy smoke coming from the rear of the house. An interior firefighting team entered through the kitchen and found fire in the living room. After they knocked down the flames, other firefighters assisted to overhaul the debris. Chief Dennis Roy was in charge.
There were two people occupying the house at the time. One man refused to go to the hospital while a woman was taken to Southampton Hospital via Southampton Village Volunteer Ambulance.
The fire is being investigated by the Southampton Village fire marshal’s office.
