Billy Joel to Release Music, Film from 1987 Russian Tour
Sag Harbor’s Billy Joel it set to put out previously unreleased music and video from his groundbreaking Soviet tour in 1987, fresh on the heels of the debut of the Showtime documentary about that concert series.
Named “A Matter of Trust – The Bridge to Russia,” both a concert DVD—or Blu-Ray—and a double album will be available, scheduled to be released May 20 by Columbia Records and Legacy Recordings. The concert DVD is the first re-release of material from Joel’s Live In Leningrad since it was on VHS. The footage been remastered from the original 35-millimeter negative and expanded to include 12 previously unreleased performances, more than doubling the running time of the original release.
The deluxe edition will also include DVDs of Joel’s Leningrad and Moscow concerts, plus Jim Brown‘s Showtime documentary and a book with rare photos and liner notes, including first-hand accounts from writers and journalists who were there, among them Gary Graff, Michael Jensen, Neal Preston, Rona Elliot and Wayne Robins.
