Police: Driver in Fatal Southampton Village Crash Was Drunk

The driver who crashed her car early Saturday in Southampton Village, killing her passenger and injuring herself, was drunk at the time, according to police.
Southampton Village police charged 25-year-old Allison Jane Rydberg, of Hampton Bays, with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated. She was arraigned Monday in village court and released after posting $75,000 cash bail, police said.
The accident occurred on Flying Point Road, near the Montauk Highway intersection, at 2:37 a.m. Saturday. A 1997 Toyota Avalon was found resting next to a tree. The passenger, 24-year-old Jason H. Pollak, of Water Mill, was taken by Southampton Village Volunteer Ambulance to Southampton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Rydberg was extricated from the vehicle by the Southampton Fire Department then transported by Southampton Village Volunteer Ambulance to Southampton Hospital before being transferred to Stony Brook University Hospital, according to police. At the time, she was listed in “critical, but stable condition,” police said.
