Shop 'til You Drop: Fall Launches, Happenings and New Openings
Change is in the air in Southampton as the new Stop & Shop opened in the former Waldbaum’s space on Jagger Lane last Friday. Also new-for-food is Backyard Brine, which recently closed on a manufacturing site on Cox Lane in Cutchogue; expect a pickle tasting room to open in the coming weeks.
On October 24 the Sag Harbor Gym (1 Bay Street) will host a series of three fitness classes to benefit the Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation (SASF) and The Retreat. Classes are open to members and non-members alike and 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the two nonprofits. Cycling will kick off the event from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., followed by Body Pump from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Zumba will conclude the charity classes from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. All community members are welcome to join with a donation: $25 for 1 class, 2 classes for $40, or 3 classes for $60. The Animal Shelter will also have dogs and cats available for adoption on premises and The Retreat will be collecting Purple Purse donations in conjunction with The Allstate Foundation’s challenge grant to bring awareness to financial abuse. Lastly the event will feature a series of raffles to benefit the SASF and The Retreat with items donated by local vendors.
As for new products, it may not be Halloween yet but “holiday” is already on retailers’ minds. This season Helen Ficalora (helenficalora.com), known for pioneering the alphabet-charm craze, will feature new winter wonderland inspired pieces. The collection is available in yellow, pink, and white 14k Gold with select pieces also available in sterling silver. The prices range from $65-795.
If you’re looking for something that will be just as great now as it will be for the holidays, checkout Rodial’s new makeup collection (rodial.co.uk). Best known for their sculpting body products, the brand has now turned its attention to sculpting the face with color with the launch of its Sculpting Makeup Collection. Founder Maria Hatzistefanis worked on the line for three years before launching it and it includes everything from concealers and foundations to mascara and makeup brushes. They also have contouring products (for Kim Kardashian fans out there…). Their formulations come in a handy range of applicators. So far the focus is on neutrals, meaning it’s perfect for quick, on-the-go application.
On the skincare front, Shiseido has introduced its Fall 2015 skincare lines, which include a high-performance serum that promotes lash and brow growth, a new concentrate formulated especially for the eye area, and our favorite here on the East End, an SPF product (50+) called Future Solution LX Universal Defense (shiseido.com, $90). The new moisturizing sun protecting product not only prevents the dryness caused by UV rays, but prevents year-round damage (UVA rays are the number one cause of skin aging), including the appearance of dark spots, roughness, wrinkles and uneven tone.
Rounding out the makeup launches, Trish McEvoy and Maybelline have launched high-impact new products. First up: Maybelline with their Gigi Hadid-approved Push Up Drama Mascara (CVS, 111 Main Street, Southampton, $9.49). It boasts a unique push-up cup brush with cup-shaped bristles, which work to scoop and lift lashes into a 45° angle, while the formula works to add volume. For her part Trish McEvoy has a slew of products including Eye Base Essentials (trishmcevoy.com; $27). Available in four colors, the eye base is, true to its name, a shadow primer and upper-eye brightener designed to correct darkness and discoloration, while locking shadow in place for crease-proof, all-day wear. It’s the product to stock up on if you’re looking to go touch-up free from day to night.
Fashion-wise, ZINK Handbags and Accessories (zinkeveryday.com), known for their leather bags, has launched a new Vegan Collection. The Vegan handbags are made from animal-friendly materials in a variety of colors and available in two styles—Mini Boxcar ($98) and the Jaunt ($128).
East End institution BookHampton will close its stores after the holidays. Visit bookhampton.com or the East Hampton or Southampton locations.
