Shelter Island Toy Photographer Matt Rohde Creates Visions of 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story'

Shelter Island toy photographer, South Ferry captain and Star Wars superfan Matt Rohde continues to post amazing photographs of his action figures in, well, action. With the hotly anticipated new Star Wars spinoff film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, officially opening this Friday, December 16—and in theaters locally on Thursday night, December 15—this seems like the perfect time to look back at some of Rohde’s finest shots from the past year.

For this gallery, we’ve selected only photos featuring characters confirmed or expected to appear in the new movie. Among them, you’ll find heroine Sergeant Jyn Erso, as well as a Rebel X-wing pilot, and a selection of the Empire’s deadly new death troopers, shoretroopers (aka Scarif stormtroopers) and hover tank pilots. Remember, Rogue One takes place after the events of Episodes I, II and III, and just before the first Star Wars Trilogy, Episodes IV, V and VI, so we’ll also see some returning classics, including original stormtroopers, sandtroopers and scout troopers (all confirmed), and, of course, the baddest baddie, the Sultan of Sith, Mr. Darth Vader! An appearance by beloved droids C3PO and R2D2 is expected but not confirmed, so we put them in, too.

The action figures pictured are mostly 6-inch Star Wars the Black Series toys by Hasbro, along with some highly detailed figures by Hot Toys, Japanese company MAFEX and even a LEGO minifigure.
Rohde, who goes by @x_captain_kaos_x on Instagram, has amassed nearly 30,000 followers on the photo sharing app, and his images have been published in various places, including toy company blogs and social media, photography and design publications, and even at the Hasbro booth at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con!
