Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump Attend Bipartisan Bash in Southampton
White House advisors Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump made surprising addition to the star-studded guest list at former Washington Post editor Lally Weymouth‘s annual birthday party in Southampton over the weekend.
According to a report from Politico, the event on Saturday was a coming together of the often bitterly divided left and right. Washington players, such as Trump campaign manager and counselor Kellyanne Conway, billionaire Democrat financier George Soros, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), local Republican congressman Lee Zeldin and billionaire GOP supporter Charles Koch all rubbed elbows together at Weymouth’s summer shindig. NY Governor Andrew Cuomo, former governor George Pataki, former New York City mayor and ardent Trump supporter Rudy Giuliani, Democratic strategist Robert Zimmerman, billionaire and Trump’s special adviser on regulatory reform Carl Icahn, and author Tom Wolfe also made appearances.
Of course no A-list Hamptons gathering would be complete without at least one Hollywood heavyweight. Legendary East Hampton director Steven Spielberg fit the bill. Weymouth’s brother Don Graham called special attention to Spielberg during a tribute to his sister. A former Washington Post publisher himself, Graham pointed out the director while praising his new film about former Washington Post publisher Katherine Graham (his and Weymouth’s mother) and editor Ben Bradlee successfully fighting the government in court for the right to publish the Pentagon Papers in 1971. The Papers, starring Tom Hanks as Bradlee and Meryl Streep as Graham, is due for limited release on December 22, and wide release on January 12, 2018.
Kushner and Trump likely felt right at home walking up the long gold carpet from the parking area to the large tent erected beside Weymouth’s Southampton home. Inside, the couple were spotted talking with former NYC Department of Education chancellor Joel Klein and venture capitalist Alan Patricof while, according to Politico, guests enjoyed champagne, rare filet mignon, fried chicken, cornbread, chocolate cake, ice cream and American flag cookies.
Weymouth’s birthday actually fell two days later, on Monday, July 3. She turned 74.
