Tonight, Saturday, August 1, AFTEE’s Show Time in Southampton drive-in movie series concludes with the dinosaur thriller Jurassic Park.
In East Hamptonite Steven Spielberg‘s exciting and thrilling adventure, Sam Neill stars as paleontologist Alan Grant and Laura Dern as paleobotanist Ellie Sattler, who are invited to visit the titular Jurassic Park, a theme park featuring cloned dinosaurs, created by industrialist John Hammond (Richard Attenborough). Along with a group of other scientists and visitors, Grant and Sattler are soon besieged by carnivorous dinosaurs and realize that Jurassic Park may have been a terrible mistake. Jeff Goldblum, Bob Peck, Samuel L. Jackson, Wayne Knight and B.D. Wong also star.
Based on Michael Crichton’s novel of the same name, Jurassic Park was the highest-grossing film of 1993—and until the release of Titanic in 1997, the highest of all time, with box office haul of over $1 billion on a $63 million budget. It was followed by The Lost World: Jurassic Park in 1997, Jurassic Park III in 2001, Jurassic World in 2015, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom in 2018 and the upcoming 2021 film Jurassic World: Dominion. While all the films have been successful, none have had the impact of Spielberg’s original.
