Three Boutique Hotels Set to Open Across East End in Montauk, Sag Harbor & Greenport

Summer’s on the horizon, and with it, new lodging offerings to account for the ever-growing summer tourists flocking to the East End.
Three new boutique hotels are scheduled to open across Long Island’s East End this year, adding to the region’s growing hospitality landscape with projects in Montauk, Sag Harbor and Greenport.
The developments come from Boston-based Blue Flag Capital and its management company, Collared Martin Hospitality, which announced that reservations are now open for two of the properties, with the third expected to follow.
Hotel Corduroy in Montauk is slated to open first in May. The 29-room property is a redevelopment of a hotel originally built in 1983 and previously known as the Sunset Montauk. The project includes a redesigned outdoor gathering space known as The Lawn, which will serve as a central feature of the three-building site, along with a small retail component.
In Sag Harbor, Faraway Sag Harbor is expected to debut in June on a waterfront site formerly occupied by Barron’s Cove. The hotel will include 67 rooms and suites, as well as multiple food and beverage venues, including a full-service restaurant, bar and lounge spaces. Additional amenities are set to include a pool and terrace, fitness center and private event space.

A third project, Oyster Estate, is planned for a September opening in Greenport on the North Fork. The 34-room hotel is a renovation of the former Greenporter and will be centered around a courtyard pool. Plans also call for an on-site bar and dining venue, along with meeting space and other guest amenities.
A spokesperson for Blue Flag Capital said that the three openings show how smaller-scale, design-focused properties have become the focus in hospitality on the East End in recent years.
Eric Freitas-Orford has been appointed managing director for New York and will oversee operations at the three locations. He previously served as general manager of The Twenty Two New York and has experience opening and managing hospitality properties.
“We’re excited to introduce locals and travelers to three distinct hospitality experiences on the East End this season,” Freitas-Orford said. “Our goal is for these properties to truly become part of the communities in which they have always belonged, honoring what’s come before while evolving into something new. We look forward to bringing our high touch hospitality to the East End and becoming a foundation for our guests to create loved memories.”
Blue Flag Capital has an existing portfolio of hotels on Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard, including properties under the Faraway brand. The Sag Harbor location will mark the brand’s expansion into the Hamptons market, while Hotel Corduroy represents the company’s first project outside of its established New England locations.
Each of the East End hotels is being developed in collaboration with design firms, with interiors and layouts intended to reflect the history and environment of the towns they are in. The Montauk property draws on surfing culture, while the Sag Harbor hotel draws on maritime influences. In Greenport, the design is expected to reference the village’s waterfront and agricultural surroundings.
