The Southampton Review Offers $1,000 Robert Reeves Prize in Comic Fiction
The Southampton Review is inviting writers to submit to the literary publication’s first comic fiction contest, judged by Daniel Menaker, the former New Yorker fiction editor.
The contest is named for Robert Reeves, the associate provost of Stony Brook Southampton, which releases TSR twice a year. Reeves is founder of the MFA program in Creative Writing and Literature at Stony Brook Southampton and his works include the comic novels Doubting Thomas and Peeping Thomas.
“The comic impulse is so widely and variously expressed in fiction that it resists definition,” TSR states. “But if your comic muse has led you to a story that you consider a match, throw caution to the wind and send it to us.”
Entries may be no longer than 5,000 words. The first-place winner will receive $1,000 and publication in TSR.
The cost to submit is $15 per story. The deadline is October 31, 2014. Winners will be notified by January 15, 2015, and honored at the Manhattan launch party for TSR‘s Spring 2015 issue.
Finalists will be considered for publication in TSR Online.
