Steven Spielberg’s 'Jaws' Stalks Theaters Again
East Hampton resident Steven Spielberg’s classic shark attack thriller Jaws will return to theaters in a limited release in honor of its 40th anniversary. Fathom Events will screen the film at select theaters on Sunday, June 21, and Wednesday, June 24.
First released in 1975, Jaws tells the story of a small New England town being terrorized by a great white shark prowling its waters. Following a series of deadly attacks, Police Chief Martin Brody (played by Roy Scheider) goes after the shark with the help of professional hunter Quint (Robert Shaw) and marine biologist Matt Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss). The hugely successful film, known for its foreboding atmosphere and memorable score by John Williams, spawned three sequels, two theme park rides, three video games and even a slot machine.
Spielberg was nominated for BAFTA, Directors Guild of America and Golden Globe awards for his work on Jaws. His next film, Bridge of Spies, will release on October 16. Spielberg is also directing film adaptations of Roald Dahl’s The BFG, scheduled for 2016, and Ernest Cline’s Ready Player One.
