Randy Lerner Gets a Cool Billion for the Browns

Somebody is a happy guy this week.

Randy Lerner just sold the Cleveland Browns for a cool billion dollars. Mr. Lerner is one of those well-respected men who quietly lives in the Hamptons. He owns all of the commercial property at Amagansett Square, and if you’ve ever hung out at The Meeting House restauratn and have seen him walk in, it’s like watching the Governor walking into a room.

You just want to say, “Respect.”

You don’t Mr. Lerner’s his face everywhere in the Hamptons, but his involvement with the community out here runs deep.

ESPN said that the Browns were sold to truck-stop tycoon Jimmy Haslam, who founded Pilot Corporation that owns and operates truck stops. ESPN reported, “The sale of the Browns is laid out in two parts. Haslam will take over controlling interest of the Browns for more than $700 million. Then, in the second phase of the purchase, he will pay more than $300 million to complete the deal.”

Now that Mr. Lerner just made a billion dollars, you have to ask, what is he going to do with it? What would you do with it? I mean, if you have a billion dollars and spend $10 million dollars a year for the next 50 years, you still have half a freaking billion dollars in your pocket. Of course, Mr. Lerner is already one of the world’s billionaires, so he sort of already answered that question.

I’m not sure what the heck I would do with it, but I can tell you this—it would be one heck of  party.

What would you do with $1 billion? I’d like to know!
