It’s almost over.

We’re marching ever closer to our last day on the planet, December 21, 2012 (or 12-21-12), yet some of you continue to work and rake leaves and refinish your basements.

We couldn’t be clearer: Stop what you’re doing and enjoy yourself. The end is near.

To assist our readers come to this conclusion, each day the Dan’s Hamptons staff has been presenting a healthy dose of proof that the apocalypse is real and it’s coming soon.

DAY 7

In our relentless research and quest for truth, we uncovered some interesting news that is sure to make you a believer.

A new upstart gallery in Amagansett, Neoteric Fine Art, opened its final exhibition of the season (and of this lifetime) over the weekend, and it’s all about the end of the Mayan calendar and the ensuing destruction occurring in just three days.

Aptly titled Amagansett Armageddon, the show features art by a number of believers, including Christine Sciulli, Rossa Williams Cole, Nika Nesgoda, Virva Hinnemo, Melissa Mapes, Rory Evenson-Phair, Dan Resnick and gallery owner Scott Bluedorn.

The show is supposedly open until January 15, but we all know when it’s really over. Bluedorn asks that people join him at the gallery on Friday for the end of the world. “I’m really interested in the 2012 phenomenon,” he said, pointing out that he’s particularly fascinated by the “hysteria” that surrounds the 12-21-12 date.

We scoff at the idea of “hysteria,” but credit Bluedorn for tackling this important and very real topic.

The show includes both visions of Doomsday and of a better future. He called himself an optimist and said Friday’s date should mark the beginning of a worldwide change in consciousness.

Bluedorn may be misguided, but Amagansett Armageddon is one of the first events to publically take on this subject on the East End. It might be nice to view some quality art as the world comes crashing down around us.

Art imitates life.

Check back tomorrow for DAY 8 of our Countdown to the 12-21-12 apocalypse, which begins December 21, 2012.
