Hamptons Designers Create Hearts for Haiti
Sag Harbor’s Donna Karan hosted “Fashion for Haiti: One Million Hearts,” an event benefitting Haitian artists, in New York last week. The event was a collaboration between Karan’s Urban Zen, the Council of Fashion Designers of America and eBay. Karan designed three hearts to be auctioned, including one for Urban Zen and one for DKNY.
A host of Hamptons resident designers created papier mâché hearts to be auctioned on eBay this week. Internationally famous designers and East End residents Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Betsey Johnson, Vera Wang, Charlotte Ronson, Nicole Miller, Cynthia Rowley and the late Lilly Pulitzer all designed hearts for the event.
Karan stated, “For me, Haiti embodies all that Urban Zen represents and these beautiful, uniquely designed hearts symbolize the limitless potential of creativity.” The 150 hearts went live Monday, April 22 on eBay and bidding concludes on Thursday, May 2. All proceeds will benefit the Haitian Artisan project, which promotes economic development through job creation and vocational education while highlighting the creativity of Haiti’s artisans.
