Monte Farber's Psychic Thoughts: The Healing Power of Cats

Animals have the ability to relieve us of our troubles, or at least make our worries seem less important.
Cats have long been revered by many cultures, including the ancient Egyptians who represented the goddess Bast as a cat. Cats have the gifts of psychic power, independence, intelligence, guardianship, detachment, sensuality and creativity. Cats teach us to believe in ourselves intuitively. They are natural healers, guiding us to honor the mystery of life.
Ever since the Egyptians started worshiping the cat, philosophers, scientists and cat lovers worldwide have wondered why cats purr. There’s something almost mystical about the purr of a cat. It has been suggested that one of the function of the purr is to enable natural healing of the cat’s own body. Cats purr during both inhalation and exhalation with a consistent pattern and frequency between 25 and 150 hertz. Various investigators have suggested that sound frequencies in this range can promote healing. The purring of cats has been linked to lowering stress, lessening the chances of having a heart attack, and even strengthening bones. And, if you need an added boost of courage or confidence, cat energy can help.
Above is a portrait I took of our shaman cat, Zane, whose presence is always healing to us—especially when he makes us laugh! Never doubt the healing power of cats.
