August 7 Billy Joel Tickets Go on Sale Friday
Sag Harbor piano man Billy Joel has set a seventh concert date—August 7—for his unprecedented residency at Madison Square Garden.
Joel announced earlier this month that he will play a concert at MSG monthly for as long as there is demand. Well, the demand has not waned yet.
Through April, the concerts are sold out. The May, June and July shows have but a few seats remaining, and some are only open to Citi credit card holders, who have enjoyed presales for every show.
Tickets for the August 7 concert go on sale at 10 a.m, Friday, December 20, for the general public. The show is on a Thursday, at 8 p.m. Ticket prices will range from $81.45 to $144.95, inclusive of fees. Visit billyjoelmsg.com.
Joel has played 46 or so concerts at MSG since 1978, and he could very well play 46 more before his monthly concert series comes to a close. Back in 2006, Joel set a record for the most consecutive sold out shows at the Garden, with 12 performances. He is now poised to break that record in January 2015 if he stays on pace.
“Performing at Madison Square Garden is a thrilling experience,” Joel says. “I’ve played different venues all over the world, but there’s no place like coming home to The Garden.”
On December 8 at the Kennedy Center Opera House in Washington, D.C., Joel received Kennedy Center honors. The ceremony and tributes will be broadcast on CBS December 29 at 9 p.m.
His daughter, Alexa Ray Joel, recently paid tribute to her father with a cover of his classic “Just the Way You Are” and performed it on Katie and Today.
Joel has won six Grammys, including the Grammy Legend Award, and he has been inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Last month, the Fox television series Glee dedicated an episode to Joel’s music.
