Couple Injured After Car Strikes Utility Pole, Tree in East Hampton Village

An elderly man and his wife were injured Sunday after the man fell asleep behind the wheel on Montauk Highway and crashed, according to fire officials.
The man was headed eastbound in front of Red Horse Market.
Around 2:42 p.m, the vehicle struck a telephone pole, snapping the pole at its base, then a tree. The couple were taken to Southampton Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
