Hamptons Traffic Tip: Nighttime Closure of LIE Begins

Those hoping to pull a fast one on Hamptons traffic by heading east in the wee hours of the morning may be in for some congestion.

As of this past weekend, the eastbound Long Island Expressway lanes between Exit 66 (Sills Road) and Exit 68 (William Floyd Parkway) will be closed Sunday through Thursday nights between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. This nighttime LIE closure will be in effect in the eastbound direction for about two-and-a-half months. Once the eastbound work is complete, the LIE will be closed in the westbound direction. All traffic will be diverted to the LIE service roads.

The nighttime LIE closure is needed to perform concrete pavement repairs. “As with most road work, this operation is weather dependent and may be canceled, postponed, or prolonged due to inclement weather,” the New York State Department of Transportation stated.
