Surf’s Up! Village Awards Bid to Flying Point Surf School

Surf’s up in Southampton! Flying Point Surf School will once again teach surfing on Southampton Village beaches.
Now the official surf school of Southampton Village for 2014 after submitting an unopposed application, the school will be teaching safe, fun surfing techniques to children and adults.
The school has operated in Southampton for several years, but was required to apply for a permit last year after locals observed the business expanding. This year, the village opened up the bidding process, but only Flying Point came forward.
In order to get a permit, Flying Point Surf School was required to meet a number of requirements: hours of operations are limited to 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday; classes must have no more than 20 students and no affiliated private lessons. As per Suffolk County camp guidelines, there must be a lifeguard for every 25 students in the water, and all instructors must be CPR-certified.
All in all, the surf school will teach students proper safety, swimming and wave knowledge, as well as basic and advanced surfing maneuvers.
