Water Mill resident Matt Lauer will remain host of The Today Show for many more years, The New York Times reports, as NBC has renewed his contract.
Without the new deal, Lauer’s tenure at Today could have been up in a matter of just a few months.
Lauer co-anchors the first two hours of the four-hour morning program.
Earlier this year, Lauer headed to Sochi for the Olympics to fill in for Bob Costas when Costas got an eye infection and could no longer anchor primetime coverage.
Lauer’s cameo in the TV film sequel Sharknado 2: The Second One is premiering July 30. His name recently came up in a Simpsons chalkboard gag.
