Try Dan's Best Waterfront Dining in the Hamptons

Dan’s Best of the Best’s 2015 nomination season is underway, so now is the time to get your favorites in the game. Among the many categories open for nominations, in the Restaurants & Nightlife section, we’re asking Dan’s readers to nominate and vote for their favorite restaurants with a water view. The Hamptons has no shortage of fabulous waterfront dining spots, so expect competition to be fierce.
Kicking things off, Dan’s Best of the Best Platinum winner for Water View Restaurant, The Canal Cafe in Hampton Bays (44 Newton Road, 631-723-2155, thecanalcafe.com) has no shortage of Best of the Best awards. Don’t let the casual atmosphere or paper plates and plastic utensils fool you—looking out onto Shinnecock Canal, this friendly spot with a “70s Cape Cod” vibe serves up some delicious, quality eats. It’s a Platinum winner for best lobster roll on the South Fork, it earned Gold for best seafood and also took Dan’s Best of the Best honors for its atmosphere and clam chowder. How could you go wrong?
Our Gold winner for water view restaurant, Oakland’s in Hampton Bays (365 Dune Road, 631-728-6900, oaklandsrestaurant.net) is in a prime spot between Shinnecock Inlet and the Atlantic. Known for their spectacular sunset views, large deck and outdoor bar, this restaurant and marina is a perfect place to dine on seafood by chef Corrie Dietrich, dance to live music and watch fisherman return to port. It’s also the Dan’s Best of the Best Silver winner for best atmosphere.
No water view dining list would be complete without something in Sag Harbor, and our Silver winner, The Beacon (8 West Water Street, 631-725-7088, beaconsagharbor.com), is an excellent spot in the historic whaling village. Perched above the Sag Harbor Cove Yacht Club, this restaurant has a stunning view across Sag Harbor Bay, spanning all the way to Shelter Island. Sunsets are always lovely and menu items include bounty from both land and sea, with inspired American, Mediterranean and Asian flavors.
Rounding out Dan’s Best of the Best restaurants with water views, Coast Grill (1109 Noyack Road, 631-283-2277) in Noyac has a gorgeous water view of Wooley Pond and Great Peconic Bay. Located at the Peconic Marina, boaters can “pull up and fill up” on delicious seafood while watching fishermen unloading bags of fresh clams and going about their business on the docks.
